Peter Rabbit Organics Squeezable Fruit Pouch Review and Giveaway!

I went absolutely bonkers when my package from Peter Rabbit Organics was delivered. I had been eager to receive it since I last spoke with their PR department. Within a very short time, a small box arrived with 3 fruit pouches nestled among shaved paper (much like the picture below, but I didn't get a photo of my own).
Peter Rabbit Organics 100% Pure Fruit Snacks contain a full serving of organic fruit with no added sugar or artificial ingredients. "Fruit Snacks" makes it seem to me that these will be some sort of healthy gummy bears or fruit roll ups. Instead, what is inside these pouches are pureed fruit (and that is it!). They are tremendously convenient, no spoon required and they have an easy twist off resealable cap. There are three different flavors:  Mango, Banana & Orange, Apple & Grape, and lastly Strawberry & Banana
These are not intended only for kids or babies, but for anyone! I opened one for my daughter and I to try, deciding that apple & grape would be most similar to applesauce, a taste she and I love, we opened that first. I took the pouch out of the box and opened it, tasted it, and wanted the rest for myself. But as many parents realize,  with a precious 13 month old staring you down, you never keep anything for yourself.
I decided that it would taste FABULOUS on my pork chops and gave myself a tiny bit on my plate, then stripped the baby to just her diaper, put her in her pack and play and let her go at it. I was expecting a huge mess (as you can probably tell). When I was eating across the room, she got to explore the pouch on her own. She spilled a little bit at first, because she didn't realize there was food inside. Once she tasted it, she didn't want to stop! She held it right up to her mouth and sucked all of the yummy pureed goodness right out of that pouch. She flattened it out by sucking so hard, and then threw it on the floor and said "Mowuh" (more). Then she began to chew on the hunky no choke style cap, and it helped with her incoming teeth!
We waited a few days to try the next flavor, I had thrown the remaining two pouches in my diaper bag, anticipating a busy bustling week and little time to put the brakes on and take a snack break. This certainly was a wise choice. We got stuck where my husband works late one evening, we drive him to and from, and his relief didn't show up until an hour after my husband was supposed to leave. It was getting to be past dinner time and I didn't grab a bottle because I assumed he would be on time like usual. I was digging in my bag hoping to find a teething biscuit and remembered the pouch, I could test the convenience and ease of use in her car seat! I grabbed the Mango, Banana & Orange one for her to try. I tasted a little bit and it was good too, I imagined that if mixed in with ice and a bit of juice it would make a great smoothie. I handed it to my daughter, again expecting a mess, but she remembered the treat from a few days before and knew exactly what to do. She tasted eagerly but then hesitated before her second bite. She can't speak well yet but I could tell she preferred the previous Apple &Grape pouch to this one. She did however eat more than half of it, and it held her over until daddy came out of work. We replaced the top and stuck it in the fridge, I emptied the rest over cottage cheese the following morning for breakfast and she seemed to enjoy the flavor more that way, I am not sure if it is the other flavor or the temperature that made the difference.
Wednesday, grocery shopping day, no food in the house day was the day we got an opportunity to try the Strawberry & Banana flavor. We plan our week necessities precisely and there is usually very little "munching" food by the end of the week, which makes sense with the 5 adults that live here full time! I was at a loss for breakfast this morning, and I needed to hand the baby something that was safe for her to eat while her uncle was supervising. He is a great uncle, and loves to play with her, but sometimes she gets into stuff she isn't supposed to (it happens when I am here too, he just doesn't clean up after her or give her baths). I figured a fool proof, no mess snack would be great to leave them with while I ran some errands. I also asked him to time her. I opened the pouch and handed it to her, allowing her to sit on the floor in the living room as I left. I went down to the car, and realized I forgot my list, so I came right back upstairs and inside, and the pouch was half gone already! He continued to time her and I got distracted and began to check my email, then was getting ready to walk out the door, list in hand, and he yells "a little over 3 and a half minutes!" WOW! She liked this one best. And by the third pouch there was hardly any around her mouth and None on her clothes, she was an old pro!
I will definitely be buying more of these, they are a quick snack that is easy and convenient, great for me or her. I would gladly suck one of these down instead of stopping for a burger and fries, it is much healthier, and very tasty as well! And I would rather give this to my daughter than almost any other snack, it is easy to reseal, there are no crumbs, and she loves it.

Busy week so far

Hi everyone, I have been a little absent minded about the blog this week. I have been very busy with getting some more photographers for the 600 follower photo extravaganza, and trying to create a contact list for companies to contact about the Christmas event. In addition to this stuff I have been between filling out job applications, because I really feel like i need to have a part time gig in order to give my family the best Christmas I can. Not to mention my 13 month old is teething and hsa had high fever for a few days, plus yesterday I gave her a saute with dinner that I thought she had eaten everything in, but she got hives and we still don't know what caused it. It's been a bit hectic!

I missed Talk to Me Tuesday, so I am going to backtrack by doing my questions now, I also didn't get to do my Monday blog hop, so I am going to link up one today.

1. Have you ever had any silly nicknames that people (besides family) used for you?
2. Do you have any tattoos?
3. Do you like the idea of a free photo shoot?
4. What type of things would you like to see featured on this blog?

  • I have been called so many names its hard to keep track, I have got through various nicknames stemming from Caitlin (CaityLynn, Caity, Kat, etc) and from my middle name Alexandra (Ally, Alyx, Alicat) and from combinations of the two names (Calyx), but I think the silliest that I have been called would be "Avacado Aviator" by some of the kids I went to school with.. it came to be in early high school.
  • I do not have any tattoos, yet, but I really want one for my daughter, a rose (her middle name is Rose) with her name Ariana.
  • I love the idea of a free photo shoot, too bad I can't win one of the ones nearby, cause there are a lot of awesome photographers in the big city areas that have decided to be included!
  • I would love to begin featuring one executive at a family friendly company, one blog/blogger, one reader and one local business per month.

Obviously MARvelous

600 follower giveaway, updated list

I cannot post all the details yet, but I am in the works with a good friend who wants to donate a portrait session as my 600 follower giveaway. This is a great giveaway for ANYONE to have, guy, girl, family, kids, ANYONE! I am in cahoots with various other photographers from all around the USA so that we can have a wide range of people win! I am hoping to do one winner per region, possibly more!

You cannot enter yet, but in preparation, please follow my blog. Once I reach 600 Followers, this giveaway will begin and you will only have 3 days for additional entries. If you aren't following, you won't know when we made it there!

What I am going to do, as we get close to 600 fans I will begin a blog post for each region with specific entry details. You must comment on the one in your region or else you will have to forfeit your win if you live in CA and enter the midwest competition by accident! If you win, you will be asked to write a mini review of the photographer to be put up on my blog upon the use of your free shoot!

As of right this moment, our facebook page has 132 followers (over 1/5 of the way to this giveaway) and my blog only has 62 followers ( about 1/10 of the way to this giveaway).. (oh yes, and on twitter there are 135 or so) the faster we get to 600 on any, the faster we will get the giveaway going.. and the sooner it will be before you can enjoy your shoots with professional photographers around the USA!

Please comment here or email me at if you have a photographer in your area that you have always wanted to do a photo shoot with and I will contact them and see if they want to be on my list!

Living in Connecticut

I took this shot while I was driving the other day..
It's such a beautiful time at the turn of the season, so I just had to capture it.
I wish I could say I stopped more appropriately but I just snapped it
at a stop sign on my camera phone then edited it a little bit online.

I love the fall, it is my favorite part of living in CT.
Apple picking, pumpkin patches, foliage, and Sunday drives more!

I am also in a coastal region so we get awesome beach access in the summer.
Beach parties,  tourists, beachy weddings, sun kissed look (or lobstery burns!),
seafood, local outdoor festivals.. the possibilities are endless.

Apple Pie Weekend

This week my husband only had one day off, the owners of his hotel are on vacation, so he and the other managers are on their own. We spent that one day driving almost an hour to a nice apple orchard. There are certainly closer ones, but he likes to take adventures, and we love to go on drives to see some of the beautiful autumn foliage of New England. We decided to pick apples, a nice big bag worth. He loves to eat Golden Delicious apples, and I needed some assorted types for my mom's famous apple pie.

We could have got a mediocre selection from a local grocery store where they are on sale for $0.88 per pound in the little tote bags(where you can't see them all and they are generally tiny), but  instead we got to take our daughter to a lovely orchard, pick as a family, and just have a good stress free day.

My mom's apple pie is not by any means traditional. It contains a sweet sour cream filling, has a streusel topping and is absolutely scrumptious. My husband adores it and so do I. If it comes out right this year it will look similar to this one (which I found on google). My in laws are hesitant to eat it, they are afraid of almost everything that is not packaged, so I am not surprised. I love this pie, I grew up on it. I also love my momma's peach pie when it comes to summertime. I think it is good to have distinguishing family recipes, rather than having something similar to everyone else.

Typically for apple pie, I use a frozen crust, I know it's the easy way out, but I am a busy lady and I never really wanted to learn how to make a pie crust. I realized a few moments ago that I forgot to buy crust this week and my husband wants pie.. uh oh! We made our budget and forgot to include that, so now we have just a little bit left, and no money for pie crust. So, I am on my own to make a crust and get this pie made by tomorrow.

I have been searching online for a good pie crust, one that is absolutely simple. One that calls for margarine or vegetable shortening because I don't have any real butter in the house. I also don't have a rolling pin so I am either borrowing one or using a can and having funny rippled lines in the crust.

Elite Bowtique started off with close friends, and eventually by word of mouth my business has boomed! I was posting photos and selling off my Facebook page. My mission is to make the cutest products at reasonably low prices! I believe everyone, regardless of income, should be able to sport the cutest handmade items.
I found some amazingly cute bows that she sells:

I cannot resist the cute owls!!

Kathi Lipp's "The Husband Project" Book Giveaway! CLOSED

Kathi Lipp
The Husband Project: 21 Days to Loving Your Husband on Purpose and with a Plan

This giveaway is going to be different than ANY other giveaway I host, because your answers matter in this one. There is only 1 way to enter, and getting through all the questions is your 1 entry. There are no additional entries. This form is like an interview questionnaire, and I will choose the top 4 choices, and then will choose which one gets the free book and a person to go through it with.

You ask, what are you interviewing for? I am interviewing for an accountability partner in this project. As I read the book, there is a requirement of having someone read the book and do the activities with you, someone you can help along the way, and someone to help you. A person who will send reminder emails a couple times a week, and encourage bonus projects.  I am looking for someone who wants to read this book and start on it right away! Someone who needs something new in their marriage!

So far, I do recommend that you buy this for yourself and do it anyways! Heck, I will be your accountability partner if you need one! This book (even just reading it, before I have started doing any actual projects) has opened my eyes to some things and is just making it easier for me to make my behaviors better for my husband.

The book is a set of guidelines to help you make the marriage better on your end, you can't change your husband, but you can change your actions to be deliberately for him . It may take a little extra work if you are having a rough time in your marriage, because this assignment does require you to make a vow to be nice to him, and to do each task for 21 days. I encourage it especially for those who are finding it difficult to balance work, kids, and hubby time! After reading through all the tasks I am excited to get going and I considered starting without an accountability partner, but decided that i could make this a Fun Giveaway, to earn my companionship for approximately 3 weeks, but more like a lifetime, because as this activity progresses, and we have to know details of our plans for each other's husbands, we will become more than accountability partners, we will become friends.

I am not being compensated for writing this review. Kathi Lipp shared the opportunity to do this with my followers out of the kindness of her heart by providing me two books. This is all personal opinion and your experience with the book will be only yours.
I hope to get to know all of you a little bit, and I will be making my decision about who will be given the book on Monday October 18th. Entries will end at 11:59pm EST on Sunday Oct 17th.

(A form has been removed because this contest is closed. Winner is Jennifer D. She will receive an email. However, I am going to be contacting Kathi Lipp's PR dept to see if the others that entered can receive one as well. I would love to work on this as a group project since there were so few entries*4* to be exact.)

Tommee Tippee Review and giveaway! CLOSED!

Day one Tuesday:
I received my Tommee Tippee Explora® Sippy Cup today in the mail. I was so excited because just yesterday I was in touch with the representative in the PR department over there. I opened up the package from UPS and there was my beautiful 2 pack of supposed "truly spill-proof" sippy cups. My first thoughts were that the cups themselves were much cuter than I remembered when I looked at the photos online. I like that the packaging had pink in it when I chose the pink/purple cups.. I am not entirely sure if that is because I picked girly cups or if that is the typical coloring. As I look at the packaging I am noticing a few things: There are small logos that say Leak Proof, 50 years experience, BPA free, and Awarded UK Superbrands 2009-2010. On the back it shows 5 stages of the Explora Truly Spill-proof cups: a trainer cup 6m+, a sippy cup 9m+, a straw cup 12m+, a water bottle 18m+, a drinking cup 24m+. At this point I determined that I wasn't going to be able to try them out today because I had errands and I wanted to truly supervise my daughter's first experience with them, so they went on the counter until tomorrow. My camera charger is lost so hopefully this week I can take the baby over to my mom's house and get a photo or two of her with her beloved sippy cup.

Day two Wednesday:
I opened the package for the first time around noon, just before lunch. It was time for juice to go with our sandwich, so I went to the sink and rinsed out the new sippy cup. I first filled it as full as I could with water and put on the top. I turned it every direction I could think of, shaking it around like crazy. I was determined to make the "truly spill proof" label be a fail. I was unsuccessful. Not a single drop fell. I emptied the water and filled it with juice and handed it to my 12 month old daughter in her high chair. During lunch baby Ariana typically gets frustrated with her sippy cups, either they pour too freely or not enough, but today she did not throw it at all until all her food was gone and she was bored of her high chair. When she threw a bottle last week on our hard floors, the top cracked and dumped milk all over the place. There was not even the slightest bit of wear when she tossed this Tommee Tippee Explora® Truly Spill-Proof Sippy Cup. Ariana has been dragging the pink cup all over the house today. Tomorrow her cousin, baby M, almost 13 months, will be over and we are going to let her test out the purple one.

Day three Thursday:
I opened up the package and took out the unused cup this morning, washed it and let it dry in anticipation of my niece's visit. The 2 cousins are rough and tough for little girls, tossing things all over the place, stealing one another's toys and food, hair pulling, binky snatching and basically being "mean" to everything they own and to each other. When baby M arrived I was ready to be the babysitter, but instead her parents stuck around for a lot of the day. At lunch time she seemed very interested in Ariana's cup, stole it and started drinking from it a number of times. Each time she was caught she would toss it on the floor and run as fast as she could. I asked her dad if I could give her one of the Explora sippy cups I was doing a review about, and his response was sort of like "whatever but I am not cleaning up after the mess she makes". I filled the purple sippy cup with water and handed it to her. I gave Ariana back the pink one and sat them down in our living room. Despite the play time nature of the visit, there was NOT A SINGLE DROP of juice or water on the floor in there after hours! The first few days, the "truly spill-proof" is definitely exceeding my expectations.
Day four Friday:
Ariana still will not let this sippy cup out of her sight. She takes off running if you try to refill it or wash it. I was so excited when there was cleaning instructions in the package, but there is a how-to video on the website as well! She takes it empty to bed with her. We both love this sippy cup. I am happy to have found one that does not spill all over her or frustrate her. Baby M's mommy was impressed with the spill proof nature of the cups too and has already asked me the cost and where to get them from. Great job Tommee Tippee! She was so anxious to go get them that she didn't want to wait to see if she could win them in the giveaway I am hosting. Loving the flip closed lid, just in case it were to spill a bit in my diaper bag or something, but I have faith that it wouldn't! Going to get a photo or two tomorrow, YAY!
Day five Saturday:
Anticipating my 2 major papers due on Sunday I am opening this giveaway Friday night at 10:00 pm EST. I will update with my further observances Saturday however they may be a bit late and I don't want you to miss out on valuable entry time.

Day five Saturday:
We took our sippy cup in the car today, and all over the place! It came to my mom's house to get these lovely pictures (as I mentioned earlier, my camera is out of commision). Then we went apple picking with my two sisters, the sippy cup came there too. Then we went to my sister's to make dinner together and spend some girl time together! At first Ariana seemed sick of the sippy cup, she didn't want her juice and kept tossing it at me. I was discouraged,no 5th day to my review... As soon as I dumped the juice and replaced it with milk, my daughter loved her sippy again. (She must not be a fan of white grape peach).
